As time progressed, the potential of the Browncoats has remained untapped. Sitting only as a reminder of our big damn heros. Then there was a period of growth and again stagnation. Leaders came and went. Words and fists flew furiously.

At a point, the game platform was exploited and folks couldn't play an honest game together so the clan was put into mothballs and only this site and the clan forums remain as a reminder, floating dark and quiet in the clouds.

Stay shiny and keep flying.

You can always send me a wave Browncoat Pete on gmail.

YoYo-Pete

'We may not always be on the winning side, but we are on the right side.'

Browncoats [BC] - Clan Roster

01) Cubby - Founder & Leader
02) PowerKid89
03) ESABON
04) reverand7676
05) Junkykill
06) hARTEL
07) elite-sta
08) kuretsu
09) Jack_Bauer18
10) Retic_P
11) xXxCHITOxXx
12) SoCoIVI.AnG3l-1

Browncoats [BC] - Member Application

Browncoats [BC] are actively recruiting.

To become a prospective member, log on to SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 2, and send "Cubby" a Friends Invite. Our clan has grown into a solid fighting machine.

The day has finally come where we are expanding into two rosters. We will add rosters as needed and existing members will be promoted to leader of a roster when the time comes.

For holding true to the Browncoat name, and displaying exceptional actions both in and out of the game, the following members now hold the following ranks and all privliges that pertain there of:

Fleet Admiral - YoYo-Pete
Vice-Admiral - Racer_X_
Chief Warrant Officer - Cubby
Chief Warrant Officer - AzureFire
Captain Alpha Squad - KillinU4Free
Lieutenant Alpha Squad - Jayne-Cobb (aka Too Tall)

Racer_X_ has formed the second Browncoat roster, Bravo squad, and will be active captain. His forus will be on recruitment from the game.

KillinU4Free has been marked leader of the first roster, Alpha squad. His forucs will be on recruitment from the web forums, and managing applicants.

Racer_X_ and I are happy to see the clan evolve to where it is today and proud of all of you for making this happen. We would not have been able to do it without you. Wednesday we saw what happens when you see the [BC] tag filling one side of the lobby. Needless to say, they needed to use homebrew cheats to be able to even begin to compete with us. If it was a fair fight, they would have been crushed.

To members who are not yet active in FTB2. You have a reserved spot on any roster you wish. After you login to the game, send a PM to the leader of the roster you would like to join and the invite will be sent out.

We are getting close to being ready to activly battle. Once we are in and adjusted to FTB2, I think we should be able to hold it down against anyone.

Now that we are adding more structure to the clan, we will be adding some guidelines to help us work together better. For example, Vain from SCC posted in the forums how room creation works for their clan. We will be creating similar guidelines to make ourselves consistant.

Stay Shiny and I'll see you on the battlefields!

Browncoats [BC] - 4 Easy Steps to Clear a Rockslide (Seal Tactic)

This training session focuses on one of the most effective ways to clear "Rockslide". Although this session focuses on a squad approach, this can be carried out with as few as 3 men (and possibly 2).

To effectively use this tactic, it requires speed to capture position and block the hostile's forward movement. Preventing the hostiles from entering specific areas will give the advantage by allowing the teams to fully focus on forward momentum and not being exposed from behind.

Step 1.

Fireteam A moves quickly to point A1. A man can be dispatched to hold the position, or grenades can be thrown to prevent the hostiles from moving that way to the top of the hill. Fireteam A must prevent forward movement until Fireteam B is in position. Watch for grenades being thrown by the hostiles. Stay loose and have a man move up the trail while the others hold the position. He should revive (if possible) anyone the hostiles take out with their grenades.

Fireteam B moves quickly to point B1. The team may want to split, sending members in close to the cliff face. They should have their SMGs equipped as the hostiles may be moving as quick as possible to block our movement. The other half of Fireteam B should move to

cover behind the rocks on the island. Use longer ranged weapons to assist teammates equipped with SMGs. Beware grenade and rocket fire. Prevent the hostiles from moving up the trail at B1 as this is crucial for Fireteam A's protection.

Step 2.

Fireteam A should progress up the trail. A man may be left to hold the hostiles position at A1, but is not necessary. Fireteam A should move onto the ledge behind the tent. From there they can effectively neutralize any hostiles below. Watch for rocket and grenade fire from the enemy base. Stay loose and keep a man safe incase the team is hit.

Fireteam B should progress down river as soon as B1 is cleared. The longer ranged weapons should stick to the left of the river. Watch for hostile fire as this exposes team members to anyone at the enemy's camp. The other part of the fireteam should progress up the ledge on the right side of the cliff face. This will give you an elevated view and

a chance to hit targets below and at camp. Watch for hostile rocket fire from down river as you will be exposed to that position.

Step 3.

As soon as Fireteam B takes B2, Fireteam A should move towards A3. Team members can either back off the ledge and move down the trail, or can move to the left off of the top of the ledge and effectively slide down the cliff face without injury. Ideally the fireteam would split sending members both ways. Watch for hostiles in their camp once you slide down. Members on the trail need to watch for the enemy near A3. The fireteam should regroup and move towards A3 as Fireteam B moves to B3.

Fireteam B should progress down the ledge, dropping down behind the rocks, staying on the right side for cover. Members who are across the river should move behind the rocks, staying toward the left side

for cover. The longer range weapons can cover any hostiles downriver. Once Fireteam A hits A3, both teams should move to their final checkpoints. Neutralize any hostiles, but stick to the plan. Do not be tempted to chase them down. Utilize your team effectiveness.

Step 4.

Fireteam A should come out of the trail. Watch to the left for hostiles behind the tent. This area should be cleared due to Fireteam B. Follow the wall on the right, and move to A4. Eliminate any hostiles that may be lurking.

Fireteam B should come out into the clearing in front of the tent. Longer ranged weapons should help cover the other side of A4. Other members should clear the area. Watch for hostiles hidden in the tent as they may be waiting for the team to move in front of the tent door.

Conclusion.

By following this simple strategy, the hostiles will not be able to outflank any of our positions. This allows the team to focus on the situation in front and not worry about hostiles behind. Speed is of the essence as preventing the hostiles forward movement is critical for this tactic to work.

Should one of the teams be neutralized, the other team should determine the best course of action depending on where the team was and the current enemy position and numbers. Although not a full proof plan, it does give an advantage against the hostiles.

In my opinion this is the best course of action for this specific environment.

Remember not to bunch up, and stay sharp.

Browncoats [BC] - Violation of the End User Agreement

A section of the On-line End User Agreement for the PSP is noted below. Typically it consists of 4 or less members. By understanding what a fireteam truly is, we can use it more effectively.

Clan
 |
Squad
 |
Fireteam

A Clan, at it's fullest, consists of 16 members. Larger clans can have 32 members by using a 16 member squad, each acting as a clan with (ideally) similar clan names and tags. In this training session, we will think of clans as consisting of 16 members.

A Squad consists of 8 members. This should be the combination of two or three fireteams. In a formal clan war, 2 squads of 8 compete to determine which clan is better.

A Fireteam, the foundation of squads and clans, consists of 4 members. It is possible to structure a clan based on fireteams of 3 individuals, but Browncoats use a 4 man fireteam to provide the best offensive and defensive abilities.

The members of a fireteam compose of 2 automatic riflemen, an supporting fireman (either long or short ranged), and a grenadier. Each follow a different technique and combined should give the advantage in most situations. Fireteam preference can override this configuration. A team consisting of 4 Automatic Rifleman can be just as, or even more, effective depending on the scenario.

1. Automatic Rifleman 1 (AR1)
Objective: Scout, Engage targets, Supporting fire.
Primary Weapon: Standard automatic machine gun (M4A1)
Supporting Item 1: M67 grenades
Supporting Item 2: AN-M8 or Mark 141 grenades
Supporting Item 3: Extra Ammunition

2. Automatic Rifleman 2 (AR2)
Objective: Engage targets, supporting fire.
Primary Weapon: Standard automatic machine gun (M4A1)
Supporting Item 1: M67 grenades
Supporting Item 2: AN-M8 or Mark 141 grenades
Supporting Item 3: Extra Ammunition

3. Supporting Rifleman Long or Short (SRL or SRS)
Objective: Supporting fire, Claymore and HE grenade deployment
Primary Weapon (SRL): Long Range Bolt-Action Rifle (L96AW)
Primary Weapon (SRS): Heavy Machine Gun (M60E3)
Supporting Item 1: Claymore
Supporting Item 2: HE grenades
Supporting Item 3: Extra Ammunition

4. Grenadier (GDR)
Objective: Explosive fire, Supporting fire
Primary Weapon: Automatic machine gun with Zx25 Burst attachment
Supporting Item 1: M67 grenades
Supporting Item 2: HE grenades (or M67 grenades)
Supporting Item 3: AT-4 Rocket Launcher (or grenades)

Browncoats follow the mnemonic "Ready-Team-Fire-Assist" (RTFA). Developed by the United States Marine Corps, it has been modified to support the roles and weaponry available.

When in non-fire combat situations (moving with no enemy in view), the fireteam should assume a "hasty 180". This means the fireteam has full cover all 180 degrees in the direction of movement.

The fireteam should spread apart to prevent explosives from eliminating more than 1 member.

AR1 should be on the left, walking facing between 9 o'clock to 11 o'clock.
AR2 should be on the right, walking facing between 1 o'clock and 3 o'clock.
GDR should be center, facing between 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock.
SRL/SRS should be behind, or next to GDR, and face the same direction.

SRL/SRS also has the ability to view anything behind the fireteam, protecting the rear without having the forward line of sight compromised.

Each fireteam should have a commander, a second in command, and scout (which could also be the second in command). Ideally the commander of the fireteam takes the GDR position, with AR1 as second command and AR2 as scout.

Due to personal preference in combat, fireteam commanders are chosen by their ability to understand the combat situation and effectively coordinate team members. Commander positions will be given to personnel who exhibit those traits and are encouraged to use the weapon they find most effective. The remaining open spots on the fireteam will then be filled with personnel depending on their weapon and technique of preference.

Having a squad with 2 fireteams on the map, working together, should have the coordinated firepower to overcome most combat situations.

Browncoats [BC] - Glitchers / Coders / Cheaters

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) and Zipper Interactive have developed the SOCOM Fire Team Bravo for thier users to have a fun on-line gaming experience.

Some users in the community believe in their statistics over honor. They will go to any means to win. This includes moving outside of normal pixel collision areas, special abilities in game, unlimited/additional explosive ammunition, invincibility, hidden game tags, one shot kills, the list goes on.

Browncoats believe in a fair fight. Using other means other than teamwork and controller skill to win is more than just unfair, it is also a violation of Sony's On-line End User Agreement.

Every user who logs into the Socom On-line Universe is required to agree to a legal and binding contract by Sony. 99.9% of all users agree to this without actually reading it. Among several things the contract discusses, a section focuses on actual game play.

If you find someone exploiting the game, cheating, using codes, glitching, being abusive, or spamming the mic and/or lobby, there is something you can do.

Contacts at SCEA have assured us that the details of ever game are logged and are reviewable. Within this data is some form of cheat detection. If the details of a round are provided, SCEA can review the data and determine if a user was doing something to exploit the game. SCEA has users who will enter games to investigate players who are suspect in violating the On-line User Agreement.

How to make a report to SCEA

Collect the following data and call SCEA at 1-800-345-7669. Once connected, press 0 to speak with a SCEA representative; tell the person that you would like to file an Online User Agreement Violation report. The reports will then be forwarded to the appropriate SCEA department for investigation and disciplinary action.

Items to include in the report:

The user's exact game tag including any symbols used.
The time and date of game.
The universe, server, and room name.
The round(s) the user was in violation.
A description of what the user was doing.
Note anything that may be of use in helping SCEA find the suspect.

All though a bit time consuming, this is the one thing we can do to fight back against the users who a ruining the game. SCEA created rules to protect all the users and try to give them a good on-line experience. Let's not let people take that away from us. Do your part and make the call.

Browncoats [BC] - The Power of a Team

This training session will focus on one of the biggest know secrets of SOCOM.

TEAMWORK

It seems pretty straight forward, but on the fields I see very little teamwork. Today's session will help explain the best tactics for teamwork using an 8 vs. 8 (16 player) combat situation. The techniques can be extrapolated to work in any team scenario with any number of teammates.

There are four basic things to worry about with teamwork. This session will first list them, and then go on to explain them in detail.

1. Partner/Fireteam Work
2. The Radar/Map
3. Communication
4. Position

Partner/Fireteam Work - In its purest form, this means "Don't go it alone". The most effective attack against an opponent is many against one. This is easily done by having a partner and/or fireteam to work with.

If you have a squad of 8 players, you should split them into 2 fireteams(4x4) and then into pairs (2x2). This gives you the ability to have someone help fire on your opponents, and also revive/heal you should you go down.

Each map usually has many routes to take to engage the enemy. By having your squad broken into fireteams, you can easily split to cover each side. While in your fireteam, it will be necessary to further break into pairs to gain a position advantage.

Example: Riverine - The seals should immediately break into fireteams. One to move down the river, the other to take the high ground. The high ground fireteam may split to engage the enemy through the arch, and also progress to the top. The river fireteam should split into partners to move down the river and/or move up to the high ground depending where the enemy is. At that point the fireteams and pairs need to improvise tactics based on their and the enemy's location.

Always have your partner with you. Browncoats leave nobody behind. More so you will have an advantage by having multiple people on the offensive. In the lobby, call out fireteams... Easiest way is to split the screen horizontally and say everyone up is Fireteam A, the rest are Fireteam B. Just remember your Fireteam. When in a fireteam, either ask for a partner, or just make sure nobody goes off alone. Listen for radio information from the other fireteam to coordinate the offensive.

The most important aspect of teamwork is the Revive/Heal. In all cases, you should go for the revive as you attack. It is almost always more effective than going for the kill. I have seen scenarios where two players going for the revive took out others who did not. As one is killed, the other revives. As he is killed, the first returns the favor. The entire time firing at the target. This is far more effective than going for the kill as you waste one trigger press to revive, but potentially could overpower any target with partners reviving each other.

Since we are a team, we work together as one. There is no dictating orders to other members. Decisions about strategy should be made on the spot with members in agreement. This means compromising for your team. "You took it last time; I'll take it this time." Since there are at least 6 rounds of game play, there will be a chance for everyone to try something. Be gracious as a team works better when the team works for the team and not the individual. We are going for team wins and not MVPs.

The Radar/Map - This device can tell you more than your location. It also can tell you where your squad is. If you are smart you can tell where the enemy is and the direction they are moving. Your fireteam should be seen on the map. Know your map as you can see where your teammates are. Once members are under attack (and if they have not communicated) you will see their blips disappear. At this point there has to be enemy in that location. They will stay there, move forward, or retreat. You can use that location to move into a position to ambush the enemy as they would not know your location. Pay attention to where your teammates are at all times.

Communication - The radio is very important to the game. Members of our clan are expected to own and be familiar with the radio headset. Communication is the key to good teamwork. When you see the enemy, call them out as a number. "I've got 4 by the arc!" or "2 by the entrance!" or "Clear from base to village." This lets everyone know where the enemy is. Based on the fireteam's location on the map, strategy can be created to get the advantage. When people call out an area clear or not, you can hypothesize where the enemy is. Likewise communication will let you time an attack so your team can get into position.

Example: In the village the enemy is in the cave. One fireteam in outside the entrance. They should hold the attack, don’t let enemy move forward, but don’t risk getting shot. Wait till the other fireteam moves out to the back entrance of the cave. Give the signal over the radio and hit them at the same time from two directions.

When the radio is down, due to satellite interference, use the commands to convey quick ideas. Since this is cumbersome and puts you temporarily vulnerable, it is easier to use common sense and work with your fireteam, and make sure no teammates are isolated.

Position - This is an important thing to keep in mind because it means many things. First off think about your position in regards to your fireteam/partner. Second think about your position to the enemy. Third think about your future position.

Your position to your fireteam is important. You don’t want to be isolated as it does the team no good. Do not bunch up! You don’t want to be bunched up as it makes you an easy target to explosives. When on the move, the fireteam should assume a "hasty 180", where the a member covers 11 o'clock to 1 o'clock (12 o'clock being the most likely avenue of enemy approach), with the the other two covering 9 to 11 and 1 to 3 respectively. Another member has grenades ready. This situation is also known as RTFA (Ready-Team-Fire-Assist).

You position to your enemy is important as it can give you a definite tactical advantage. By knowing where your enemy is, you can detain them in a fire fight, while letting the other fireteam out flank the enemy. This allows you to attack them from two sides at once, forcing them to split their attention and firepower to two sides. Not only think about the best position to the enemy for your fireteam, but think about it in regards to the other fireteam. Communicate and create strategy to get both teams into position if possible.

Your future position is important. As like chess, to beat the opponent you need to have multiple steps planned out, not just the next move. Think about where the enemy was called out and the number, or where clear areas were called out. Think about where your teammates are. From these factors you can hypothesize where unseen enemies are. Take that into account when trying to move to a flank position. Think about their possible directions of movement. Typically if you know the enemy is in location X, they have two directions they can move. Take your fireteam/partner to an area that they would be moving to. If they were moving that direction, you should be able to ambush them. If they moved in the opposite direction, you now know and can call it out to the other fireteam.

By using Teamwork, and these concepts, you will have an advantage over a team that does not.

Browncoats [BC] - Ranks Explained

To become Enlisted and obtain Officer ranks, you must be playing games with ranked scoring. To do this we implemented a system that took all sorts of elements into account and gave feedback to the player through the size and position of the crosshair reticle. So here’s the lowdown on how this system works...

Target locking and visibility: most of the beta testers realized this after a while, but just because you have someone target locked, doesn’t mean you’ll get a kill, or get one quickly. There are three main factors that determine how lethal you are when you have an enemy locked:

* Accuracy
* Hit location
* Distance

For accuracy, there are a lot of factors we put in that determine just how true your shots will land. For instance, when you move, you become less accurate in general, no matter what you’re firing. Burst firing and high-recoil weapons will affect the accuracy of weapon too, but you can avoid this by going prone or crouching for less recoil. Additionally, each weapon is more or less accurate than others. Check the statistics of the weapon you choose in the Armory.

You can gauge your accuracy by watching how much your crosshair ticks are moving. Generally, the more the ticks move away from each other, the less accurate you’re shooting. Wait for those ticks to come back together before firing and you’ll have a much better chance of hitting your target (as opposed to hitting the guy next to him J)

Hit location is where you reticle is going to be on your opponent when you lock him. Obviously the upper torso and head is a better place for it to be than the lower torso or arms. The reticle’s position is fluid when you have a target lock – it moves around in response to your situation and actions. Primarily your best chances of getting a high torso or headshot are by not moving and being in a low stance. The closer you are too, the better your chance of aiming for the head. You can see your reticle respond to your tactics in the game when you have a target – it will glide up and down over the target as you move, stop, change stance or close the gap. Also, your opponent’s movement affects the hit location – if you can wait until your prey has stopped moving you have a better chance of a lethal shot.

Finally there’s distance. All weapons have a different lock range – the distance at which you can lock on to a far away enemy. For example SMGs have shorter lock ranges than rifles, to reflect the effective firing distance of these weapons. The further away you lock someone, however, the lower you aim. No auto-headshots for distance attacks – you’ll still need to use your scope for that. A big factor in determining how far away people can lock you is your visibility. That small eye icon in the bottom right of the HUD changes from white to black as you go from being completely exposed to being totally hidden. You can hide in places with lots of foliage (like bushes or tall grass) or where there is a lot of shadow. The better hidden you are the closer people have to be to target you.

Think this gives an unfair advantage to snipers? No sir – every time you fire off a round that visibility meter goes bright white for a few seconds – and during that time you have no cover bonus (you just gave your position away after all) allowing enemies to target YOU much more easily.

So that’s what is going on behind the scenes in every game of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo. There are pros and cons for almost every tactic you can use – sniping from a distance, sniping from cover, running and gunning, ambushing or spraying and praying. You’ll need to keep your tactics fresh based on each encounter, gametype and map.

Browncoats [BC] - Code of Conduct

Your actions speak for you. some, rich and flush with the new technologies; some, not so much. The central planets -- them as formed the Alliance -- decided all the planets had to join under their rule.

There was some disagreement on that point.

After the Unification War, many of the Independents who had fought and lost drifted to the edges of civilization, far from Alliance control. Out here, people struggle to get by with the most basic of technologies. A ship will bring you work; a gun will help you keep it.

A captain's goal is simple: find crew, find a job... keep flying.

The Independent Faction was the name of a group that fought the Alliance during the Unification War. The group was nicknamed 'Browncoats', due to the brown colored trench coats they wore (Alliance troops were nicknamed 'purple bellies' due to the coloring of their own armor).

One of the reasons the faction was formed was to attempt and prevent the alliance from creating a "better" and "more peaceful" people.

The faction was created when the core worlds formed the Alliance and declared war on any planets that resisted efforts to unify the rest of the planets under Alliance control (thus the name Unification War). After the war ended, surviving faction members migrated towards the outer planets, where Alliance control is more tenuous.

In the Firefly universe, Browncoats were soldiers who fought for the Independents, who lost to the Alliance in the Unification War. They were named after the simple, brown leather trench coats they wore as uniforms. They also wore red scarves around their necks. The simplicity of their gear was greatly due to the fact that technology and resources were scarce on the Outer Planets. Conversely, the Alliance's soldiers were called "Purple Bellies", because of the purple tinted body armor they wore on their chests.

Firefly / Serenity's creator Joss Whedon says about Browncoats:

"Firefly went on the air a few years ago and was instantly hailed by critics as one of the most canceled shows of the year. It was ignored and abandoned and the story should end there, but it doesn't, because the people who made the show and the people who saw the show (which is...roughly...the same number of people) fell in love with it a little bit...too much to let it go, too much to lay down arms when the battle looked pretty much lost. In Hollywood, people like that are called 'unrealistic'... 'quixotic'... 'obsessive'.

In my world, the're called 'Browncoats'."

Take my love, take my land,
Take me where I cannot stand...
I don't care, I'm still free!
You can't take the sky from me.

Take me out, to the black,
Tell 'em I ain't comin' back...
Burn the land and boil the sea!
You can't take the sky from me.

Have no place I can be,
Since I found Serenity;
But you can't take the sky from me.

Browncoats [BC] - Socom Fire Team Bravo Multiplayer Maps

The Independant Faction has aquired satellite recon of several "hot" zones.

This data has been collected from numerous regions where enemy presense is strong.

Study these maps as the intel could save your team.

<img style="BORDER-RIGHT: gold 1px solid;
